'10 Gulab Jamuns' Book Review

"10 Gulab Jamuns" by Sandhya Acharya was a great addition to the other books we read for Holi. It is a sweet story about two little boys who sneak some gulab jamuns that their mother had made for a dinner party! I think every child can sympathize with the little boys who just want a taste of the special sweet treat! My Squidgy is famous for asking, "Can I just taste test one?"

One of my favorite parts of the book was looking at all the foods Mamma had prepared for dinner and trying to guess what they were!

We saw what we thought were samosas, rice, naan, saag paneer, and some kind of tikka masala! I was really happy that I chose to read this book the same day that we ordered food from a local Indian restaurant because I got to eat a lot of the things I saw!

Both Squidgy and Lil C thought the story was funny and both were glad that I had ordered some gulab jamun with dinner so they could have some too!

My favorite part was the candy. Next time, the boys should not eat the candies! - Squidgy, 5

My favorite part was when they climbed up onto the table and took the desserts! I think the mom learned that next time she should make more, and maybe put them in the fridge. - Lil C, 9

If you are unfamiliar with Indian foods, I would highly recommend you check this book out! There is also a recipe for gulab jamun at the end of the book created by Hetal Vasavada of Milk and Cardamom. The recipe can also be found on her site - Milk and Cardamom: Gulab Jamun

Here's a video read aloud by author Sandhya Acharya so everyone can enjoy the story today!
