Read and Rise Global Explorers 2021 - Hungary

Today we're traveling north from Kenya to visit Hungary in central Europe. Hungary is a small country - only about the size of the state of Indiana - that is surrounded on all sides by other countries. But Hungary has some very interesting features and foods that we will explore!

Read: When I reached out to author Carole P. Roman about using one or more of her "If You Were Me and Lived in..." series for my global explorers program, she not only immediately agreed to collaborate with me, but she sent me a whole stack of books in the series to explore! I settled on featuring "If You Were Me and Lived in Hungary" because I feel like Hungary can often be overlooked when doing travel series for kids. Roman's series is great for introducing kids to various countries as they present facts in a fun way and all the books have a similar structure which makes it easy to compare similarities and differences between the countries.

Printables:
Hungary Activity Booklet - This printable booklet includes some interesting information about Hungary as well as a recipe, a craft, some Hungarian words, and more! You will also find your Hungarian passport stamp here

Hungary Postcard - Here's a printable postcard from Budapest from me! I visited Hungary in 1996 - I didn't know at the time, but the Parliament Building was celebrating the 100th anniversary of its inauguration (but it wasn't fully completed until 1904).

Little Einsteins Hungarian Hiccups, Season 1, Episode 3 - this episode features the piece "Hungarian Dance No 5" by German composer Johannes Brahms. Brahms was introduced to Hungarian gypsy music by Eduard Remenyi and was so inspired he wrote 21 Hungarian dances! (this series is available to watch on Disney+)
