'If I Were a Park Ranger' - Read and Rise April 2025
I can't talk about taking care of the Earth without mentioning National Parks! National Parks are vital partners in the quest for protecting the Earth. Not only do National Parks preserve and protect lands, but they allow us to explore, appreciate, and learn about the natural world around us. And none of that would be possible without park rangers!

I wish this book was around to read when I was a kid because now that I think about it, being a park ranger would've been a really cool job! I love learning about native plants and animals and being a teacher, obviously I love to share my knowledge! For now I'll have to settle for sharing my knowledge with you all.
Featured Story: If I Were a Park Ranger by Catherine Stier and Patrick Corrigan
Activities:
- To explore some National Parks from the comfort of your couch, check out National Geographic's America's National Parks and National Parks USA. Both series are available on Disney+.
- Visit a National Park! Download the National Park Service App to have park information at your fingertips. Also good to know - 4th graders in the US (and their families) get free access to national parks for an entire year! Many parks also have Junior Ranger programs so make sure to look into those before you visit. Last fall we visited Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park in Vermont and the kids got these awesome wooden badges - made from wood from park trees - for completing the Junior Ranger booklet.
- If you can't make it to a park - or you just want to learn about a park really far from home - explore them virtually from home through the National Park Service! Your kids can also complete many Junior Ranger programs virtually. I actually just downloaded and printed booklets for Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. You can search for virtual field trips/tours for various National Parks on YouTube as well.
**Whichever way you decide to explore National Parks - watching a nature documentary or taking a hike - you can log the time spent for WWF's Earth Hour!
